Today is a time of change . uncertainty has found its way into lives of millions around the world

as we head deeper into the 21st century our ideas about society on a whole are being challenged

One thing is certain what happens in one country effects us all

Interdependency on a global level is set in stone

As citizens of the world we no longer ignore what happens to citizens in other sovereign states.

Freedom of expression ,The right to vote democratically , free trade and equal rights for all ,irrespective of class race or religion. These are the basics if we are to create a global village .With the advent of the internet and all its applications, social networking sites. knowledge is now at the touch of a button. we can share information first hand without the dilution of political agenda and corporate interest

Artists .writers photographers, A host of creatives can ,and do spread they’re thoughts and passions for others to see across the fiber optic world wide web.Yet as our global village grows it seems our local communities have become fragmented and marginalized . Numerous factors have played a part in this over the years it has been a gradual process, one that has crept up slowly yet has showed its ugly face in the light of recent events (2011 riots summer london ).

How do we approach such a sticky subject without blaming one institution or another . How do we bridge the divide of disparity and inequality . Through localized action, Through communication with the appointed government officials like councillors. Individuals whose purpose is to support the local community. Also Through interaction with local business where funding can be found for emerging talent within our towns and villages. The atomrooms portobello wall 2012 is a macrocosm in images of this changing world .

THE ARCHITECTS OF BRITISH GRAFFITI RE-UNITE WITHIN A FINE ART CONTEXT

In the 1980s the words art and graffiti were rarely seen in the same sentence. Young people, inspired by the Hip-Hop and graffiti scene from across the Atlantic, picked up aerosol cans as a means to express themselves but were quickly labelled as vandals and criminals. Now, 20 years on, things have changed with street artists being given well-deserved recognition for their talent and message.

Keith Hopewell aka Part2ism is one of the UK’s leading contemporary street artists and when approached by newly established gallery AtomRooms to curate an exhibition, he decided to go straight to the root of his influences.

His group show “The Architects” features some of London’s most important artists who emerged from the original generation of graffiti artists in the 1980s. The show will highlight how Pride, SheOne, Prime and Fuel have bridged the gap from their early days as graffiti artists to their current status as fine artists with works ranging from charcoal, metalwork, graphic illustration to paint and aerosol on canvas.

The exhibition was open to the public from 24th September 2010 to 3rd October 2010 and looked at these four individual artists who have always pushed the envelope and at where their new work bridges the gap between what they created in the past and the fine art they produce today.
